LOGLINE:
A desperate girl finds sanctuary with the town's witch. But as she disappears behind closed doors, a superstitious community becomes convinced the old woman is preparing a dark ritual.
STORY STATEMENT:
My goal with this story is to explore how human perception fragments truth and turns social circles into violent spaces. Inspired by Mexican magical realism, I portrait an impossible multiple pregnancy as a physical manifestation of abuse. The body of the young woman (Lina), becomes the sole witness to a violence that the community prefers to ignore behind myth and judgment.
The story is divided into two opposing perspectives:
The look of Judgment: In the first half, the camera adopts the town's inquisitive gaze. Long lenses predominate to create a sense of distant observation, framing the women's home as a distant, forbidden, and feared object of study.
Invaded Intimacy: In the second half, the perspective shifts into the protagonists' refuge. I use wide-angle lenses in extreme proximity to generate a stifling closeness. My intent is for the camera to invade their personal space, provoking a sense of claustrophobia where the environment appears to collapse upon Lina and her protector, materializing the harassment that leaves them with no room to breathe.
